So, after way too many years of not knowing Dungeons & Dragons was actually the coolest thing ever, I became obsessed, and I want to play all the time with cool people and y'all are the coolest so here we are.
Who would be interested in joining a campaign (5th edition)? Reply to this thread if you'd be up for it! No previous experience required.
Also, if you want to DM/GM, please say so! On that note, I added a poll to this thread if anyone has any strong feelings about keeping this Wanderers/Scribblers only. Otherwise, my college friend is looking for a group and he's GMed before, so he'd be happy to do it, too. Basically GMs are the "world." They keep the story and are in charge of NPCs and plot elements and making a narrative worth exploring.
Anyone have any strong feelings about playing a certain class? We could always double up, but it's good to have a variety. I'll start a list.
Mikkay: bard or sorcerer
Rosabeth: rogue or ranger
Maddie: druid
Mollianne: monk or paladin
Reilly: rogue or bard (or DM?)
Jase: cleric or fighter
Eeva: ranger, bard, or cleric
If you have no idea because you've never played or known anything about D&D, don't worry! Those of us who have played can give you the rundown. :] Class describes your character’s vocation and special talents and gives your character’s access to certain abilities. Here's the standard list of classes in 5th edition D&D:
a. Barbarian – a fierce warrior of primitive background who can enter a battle rage
b. Bard – an inspiring musician whose power echoes the music of creation
c. Cleric – a priestly champion who wields divine magic in service of a higher power
d. Druid – a priest of the Old Faith, wielding the powers of nature and adopting animal forms
e. Fighter – a master of martial combat, skilled with a variety of weapons
f. Monk – a master of martial arts, harnessing the power of the body in pursuit of physical/spiritual perfection
g. Paladin – a holy warrior bound to a sacred oath
h. Ranger – a warrior who uses martial prowess and nature magic to combat threats
i. Rogue – a scoundrel who uses stealth and trickery to overcome obstacles and opponents
j. Sorcerer – a spellcaster who draws on inherent magic from a gift or a bloodline
k. Warlock – a wielder of magic that is derived from a bargain with an extraplanar entity
l. Wizard – a scholarly magic-user capable of manipulating the structures of reality
I mean, I'm not an expert by any means (I've only been playing since June) but I'd recommend less magical classes to beginners. Magic is confusing. I'm constantly confused by it. It's fun, but also a lot to keep track of. Barbarians and fighters have basically no magic. Rogues and monks also don't have any to start, but you can add magic later as your character grows. Paladins and rangers are lower magic users, too.
