Fridays were the best days. The minute the clock ticked to five PM, Derek already has his brief case in hand and he immediately clocked out of that godforsaken hotel. When he got home, Kimba was already waiting for him, dressed in shorts and a backless tank top with heels and cash sticking out of her bra cup. And, just like that, they took the train to SIN and vowed to completely erase their minds of the horrible, horrible week behind them.
"We should do something fun tonight," Kimba suggested when they got out of the cab. The sun already disappeared by the time they got there, but the warmth from it still sizzled from the sidewalk. Today burned with the intensity of a million suns, but only because the Colfax Tower AC was under construction with new magic machines that would improve efficiency. At least it cooled off now.
"Isn't that why we're here?" Derek answered his friend as he shoved cash to a bouncer in front of the inconspicuous door.
"I mean something new," she clarified with a hint of mischief in her voice. Considering she'd been to jail a few times, he had no doubt she knew exactly how to have "fun" doing something "new." Derek grinned the thought away when they finally stepped through the entrance.
"I don't care what it is as long as we're not arrested. I just need a scotch to start the night off right." Kimba giggled the giggle she gave when she knew something he didn't--which was often. She was planning something, and as usual he was completely powerless to stop whatever it was.
SIN already thumped with base that forced his heart beat to race. People dressed in any flashy outfits spun and bounced about on the wooden floor, covered in sprays of light and mist provided from the machines above. The DJ shouted something exciting into the microphone, but Derek couldn't hear him over the cheers. It must have been someone popular tonight for everyone to be that excited. Last week the DJ was terrible, so it was a nice change.
"I think I see someone I know!" Kimba announced with a skip in her step, waving to someone at the bar. Derek, unsurprised, followed her and scanned the people in the crowd. People at night clubs tended to like to dress in sequins, bright colors, neons, UV-sensitive cloth--anything to get noticed, but he was dressed in his black slacks and white button-up from work, and Kimba kept herself fairly simply-dressed. She didn't need clothes to call attention. She wasn't a short girl, and the way she walked with such confidence made for Derek to have a busy night of pretending to be her boyfriend to get the men she wasn't interested in away from her. (It was only fair, since she did the same for him.)
Derek let her catch up with the couple of friends she spotted while he waved for the bartender's attention. Of course, because he didn't have Kimba by his side, he went completely unnoticed. He'd just have to wait until she finished catching up with her oddly intimidating-looking friends a few feet away.
