Stock Art
Have a picture, painting, video clip or other piece of visual art that you'd like to put up for FREE USE? Post it here!
What does this mean for the artist?
This means that if you have, say, a picture of your dog, and you want to give it away so anyone could use it for anything they want, you can post it here so people can use it without permission from you (though, upon your request, they may give credit when credit is due and may notify you of their usage).
What does this mean for the borrower?
Just because you use a free-use picture does not mean you own the rights. You have no right to say you do. If the artist requests to be notified of your use, YOU MUST notify them or you violate their Right to Copyrights. If the artist requires credit, you must credit them where the work you created with their piece is displayed. However, on the same token, this means that anything posted in this thread, or anything with the word "STOCK" in the title of the thread in these boards, you can use for free without having to ask permission.
Can I post work that isn't mine on here?
Absolutely, as long as you have permission from the original artist, or it is stated where you got the stock image that it is okay. See information on the Creative Commons License to be better educated about this issue.
Can I modify these stock images for commercial use (i.e. my book cover, my album cover, shirts I plan to sell)?
Only if it is explicitly stated in the post containing the stock images in question. Otherwise, no.
Thank you for your contributions!
