Rated R for profanity, sexual scenes, and violence.
Humans are not the only creatures that walk the streets of London, and the human world is not as alone as people might think. From the smoky mountains in which ogres scavenge, to the deep sea utopias of the water fae, there are a plethora of hidden destinations to be explored. However, the entrances to their lands weren’t constructed to be easily found, and only the lucky have found the golden doors to their most coveted childhood fantasies. However, not all fairy tales ended sweetly, and not all creatures are amiable.
Olivia Bates is a detective on the outskirts of London where a small, derelict coffee house-turned-precinct takes care of all of the city’s hottest mythical offenses. However, the young agent had never been prepared for one of the largest crimes of the year. In the capacity of five days, more than several dozen humans disappear, leading to an uproar. The precinct hires Dominic Foster, a dhampir (half human, half vampire), to lend his knowledge to the case after receiving reports of one body being discovered in the Thames River, completely drained of blood.
However, the pair soon realizes a few dead humans are the least of their problems when news seeps to the Consilium of the attacks, sending them into outrage. One side argues that mythical creatures should be eradicated from the human world entirely, returning to their home regions forever, while the other side refutes that humans could be useful to mythical creatures with stricter rules and stronger safety precautions. More than forty eight hours pass without word of an agreement before the Consilium divides themselves into two groups, a war on the forefront.
Can Olivia and Dominic stop the impending battle before it rips everything to shreds, or are they too destined to pick sides and take a stand?
